October 26 —The board of directors of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation announced today the appointment of Peter Taylor as president. Taylor was selected after a national search. He will be the fourth president in the foundation’s nearly 30-year history.

Taylor has been a vice president of the Maine Community Foundation, a statewide community foundation with $400 million in assets and 1,500 funds.

“We are thrilled that Peter Taylor will join us to lead Berkshire Taconic into the future,” said Bill Dunlaevy, chair of the board of directors. “His track record of fostering collaboration and marshaling resources to achieve broad community objectives makes him an ideal choice to expand our role as a force for good in our communities.”

Taylor oversaw the Maine foundation’s $24 million annual grantmaking, scholarship and impact investing programs.

In accepting, Taylor said “It’s an extraordinary opportunity to succeed Jennifer Dowley as the next president of Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.  I believe deeply in the powerful role of community foundations in helping donors achieve their charitable goals and nonprofits meet their missions. I look forward to leveraging Berkshire Taconic’s strengths and identifying new ways to lead on key issues and increase impact.”

Taylor begins his new job at Berkshire Taconic in early January 2016.  Until then Jennifer Dowley will continue to lead the foundation.

The Millbrook area has traditionally had a strong presence on the board.  Residents currently serving are Sara Stack, who is vice-chair; also Gloria Callen and Chris Kennan.

Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation helps donors help their communities through charitable giving in northwest Litchfield County, CT; Berkshire County, MA; and Columbia County and northeast Dutchess. The foundation distributes over $8 million annually through grants and scholarships to nonprofits and individuals in the arts and education, health and human services and environmental protection. Berkshire Taconic is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity.
